Iowa is the best state in the country. The U.S. News & World Report put Iowa atop the nation in its 2018 Best States Report. Iowa jumped up five spots from its 2017 ranking, earning praise for its economic opportunity and access to quality health care.
U.S. News evaluates all 50 states on eight categories — infrastructure, health care, opportunity, education, quality of life, crime, economy and fiscal stability — and numerous subcategories. Iowa ranks in the top five in half the categories, including first place in infrastructure and fourth in opportunity, a measure that assesses people’s potential for economic success. Other notable rankings are:
- GDP growth: No. 6
- Employment: No. 8
- Labor force participation: No. 10
- Low unemployment rate: No. 8
FitSmallBusiness.com echoed the economic outlook for Iowa in its 2018 rankings for “Best States to Start a Business". Iowa ranks seventh on the list because of the high quality of life (No. 6), low cost of starting a business (No. 7), affordability of office space (No. 1) and labor market (No. 9).
The rankings by both publications show Iowa is a well-rounded place to live, work and run a business. By showing improvement in these rankings in recent years, the state proves its commitment to success in bringing in new resources, business and opportunities.
